Wineries and Vineyards

The Toro Denomination of Origin covers around 8,000 hectares of vineyards in the Zamora and Valladolid provinces. It is the last Spanish wine area to be bathed by the Duero River.

With a soft, rolling landscape, this area has sandy-textured soil, excellent drainage conditions and an acceptable water retention capacity; rainfall is less than 400 mm annually, with around 3,000 effective sunshine hours.

Tinta de Toro is the indigenous varietal par excellence. Its roots are anchored in loose, sandy soil that is well drained, maintaining the increasing number of vineyards where graft is not used until the present times. Other varietals in the areas are Garnacha, Malvasía and Verdejo, from which excellent whites and rosés are made.

The Winery is equipped with the most modern technology, both for the production as well as for the conservation, ageing and bottling of its wines. It accepts only grapes grown on the over 1,000 hectares belonging to its members.

The average annual grape production is 4.5 million k, of which 1.5 million belong to grapes older than 60 years old. The significant investment made in the last few years in stainless steel tanks, controlled fermentation equipment, an ageing cellar and a bottle storage room has contributed tremendously to our wine quality.
